Stunning photos of Cumbria sought for Eden Valley Hospice competition

Highland cow on Orton Scar, taken by Simon Cove, was one of last year’s winning photographs.

Photographers from across Cumbria are being invited to send in their images of the county to help support Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw, Cumbria’s Children’s Hospice.

Following its success last year, the Carlisle-based charity is relaunching its popular photography competition called “Our Cumbria”, which attracted hundreds of entries last time around.

The best of the images will be selected by a judging panel and will be used as part of the 2023/24 Christmas product range, which includes calendars, cards, prints and diaries.

The festive products are a vital source of income for the hospice which relies heavily on support from the local community to continue caring for local families.

Traditionally, the photos used in the charity’s calendar and on cards are of landscape scenery across Cumbria, and while people will be encouraged to send in scenes like this, the charity is also keen to see a range of imagery submitted, with animals and local scenes also proving popular.

The competition closes on Wednesday, 1st March, with winners announced soon after. Photos which are entered must have been taken in Cumbria within the last two years and each entrant is allowed to submit a maximum of six.

Richard Jackson, retail manager for the charity, said: “Cumbria is such a beautiful county full of incredible scenery and wildlife so we look forward to seeing what everyone comes back with for this year’s competition, which is open to anyone, whether they be professional photographers or keen amateurs.”

To enter, go the charity’s website at www.edenvalleyhospice.org/support-us/our-shops/photography-competition
