A farmer from Threlkeld has lodged an appeal after Lake District planners refused permission for a vintage fire engine to remain on Doddick Farm.
The striking red engine had been adapted as holiday let accommodation, and Graham Teasdale, who owns Doddick Farm, had asked for retrospective permission for its siting on his land.
The application, which went before the Lake District National Park Authority’s development control committee’s February meeting, had been recommended for approval by officers.
At the time, planning officer Kevin Richards pointed out that the application supported the working farm as part of its diversification scheme and could arguably meet the legal definition of a caravan.
In his report to the meeting in February Mr Richards said the location was only open to “distant public views” and is sited in close proximity to farm buildings and near to a number of holiday chalets.
Although the report recommended the plan be approved as it would not result in landscape harm or visual impact, members of the committee disagreed and it was refused.
The appeal will now be looked at by an independent planning inspector who will make a final decision.
