More than £4,100 was raised to help the people of Ukraine when 11 calves and stirks were sold to support the cause at Penrith mart on Friday.
The top price for one of the young beasts sold for the Ukraine appeal was £820 for a 14-month-old British Blue cross heifer from Jonty Bellas, Croft Ends Farm, Appleby, and purchased by D. Holgate, Wakefield.
Other sums paid for calves for the appeal were: British Blue — £600 Howes Farm; £450 Monks House; £410 Hall Field; £305 Low Moor Dyke. Jersey — £600 Abbot Lodge. Salers — £250 Blunderfield East. Black and white — £118 Thackwood Farm. Fleckvieh — £100, £75 Askrigg Hall. Hereford — £85 Dolphenby Farm.
This money will be added to the almost £10,000 raised by the Penrith and District Farmers’ Mart Partnership and their customers, plus the proceeds from a raffle and the sale of a fertiliser drill.
