Students from a Penrith school are taking part in a national reading competition.
Ullswater Community College pupils are in the regional heats of the National Reading Champions Quiz.
The quiz is an initiative that is now in its third year, which aims to build a love of reading and celebrate reading for pleasure.
It was created by National Literacy Trust and is supported by the Authors’ Licensing and Collecting Society.
Schools take part in an online quiz with their peers and compete with other schools in their region.
The quiz is open to students aged between 10 to14 and schools can enter up to two teams of four students per team.
The youngsters at Ullswater Community College are being supported by Penrith and the Border MP Neil Hudson.
Dr Hudson said: “I am thrilled that pupils from Ullswater Community College will be taking part in the regional heats of the National Reading Champions Quiz.
“Reading is not only a hobby, it is also a great way to expand our minds, vocabulary, and gives us confidence. I wish the pupils at Ullswater Community College all the best luck and I will be keeping an eye on their progress.”
