8.38pm

TransPennine Express is strongly urging customers travelling north of Preston to avoid travel before 10an tomorrow, Monday February 21, due to disruption caused by Storm Franklin.

Services are subject to speed restrictions, delays and cancellations due to the extreme weather and as a result are very busy.

In addition to the severe weather, TPE is running an amended timetable today, Sunday February 20 with a significant reduction in services as a Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union strike action is taking place.

As a result of both the strike action and Storm Franklin, TPE is calling on customers to consider if their journey is necessary and to avoid travel if possible.

Tickets from February 18, 19 and will be accepted for travel on Monday February 21 and Tuesday February 22.

7.17pm

Platforms 1 and 2 at Preston railway station are closed for safety reasons due to the severe weather, which will result in disruption to trains which operate through the station, including the Avanti West Coast Service. People are being urged to check before they travel.

Storm Eunice ripped off roof panels at the station earlier in the week.

6.48pm

Earlier flooding on the A6 in Low Hesket has cleared, our colleagues at Cumbria Road Watch are reporting.

6.25pm

The Environment Agency says the heaviest rain has passed through Cumbria and Lancashire.

Honister saw 115.6mm of rain in the last 24 hours.

It adds that many rivers in Cumbria have peaked, but the Eden will peak at Appleby at around 9pm and Carlisle at midnight.
