A distraught cat lover is seeking help to find an adventurous kitten who has gone missing after taking a perilous journey with her sister beneath the bonnet of a car.
The 12-week-old tortoiseshell cat, called Rascal, was last seen around Sainsbury’s, in Penrith, after escaping from the engine of an electric Kia car that belonged to friends of Ann Hope, who had been visiting her in Clifton on Tuesday.
Rascal and her sister Honey, a ginger and white kitten, have a habit of clambering inside the engine compartments of vehicles and it is believed that they had both taken a journey in the Kia.
Honey was found in the engine compartment of the Kia after the couple, who live in Carlisle, were contacted by a concerned Ann who had been desperately searching for the fearless felines.
The couple had called into Sainsbury’s on their 25-mile journey home to Carlisle and had pulled into the disabled bay on Tuesday afternoon.
Ann went to Sainsbury’s just after 7pm after learning that her friends had stopped there and a couple of customers confirmed that they had seen a tortoiseshell kitten.
She believes that the kitten may have been scared off by vehicles circulating around the car park but her main fear is that the curious pussy may have climbed beneath the bonnet of another vehicle and may not have been so lucky.
Her lost cat has been reported to the police, Animal Rescue, the RSPCA and local veterinary surgeries.
“It’s my own fault, I should have checked on them,” said Ann, who used to work at Lloyds bank in Penrith.
“It has taken me three-and-a-half years to get a tortoiseshell cat after my last one died. I just want her back.”
