A Cumbrian hamlet found itself at the centre of a coronavirus crisis after a major news organisation said it was part of the North East’s local lockdown.
Sky News showed its viewers a map of the areas affected by the new measures brought in for the area, which included Sunderland.
Unfortunately, the map showed the hamlet of Sunderland in Cumbria, rather than the city on the other side of the country.
The hamlet of Sunderland is part of the All Saints ward on Allerdale council, near Aspatria, which has a total population of 4,803 according to the latest figures. Only a handful of people live in the hamlet itself.
The city of Sunderland in Tyne and Wear, which has a population of 174,286.
Facebook users have been quick to pick up on Sky’s mistake and people contacted the news organisation to point out the error, which it corrected.
