A Penrith man has admitted possessing cannabis — potentially worth around £43,000 — with intent to supply.
Aron Underwood, 49, faced one charge when he appeared at Carlisle Crown Court yesterday, Monday June 16.
Underwood pleaded guilty to possessing the controlled class B substance, with intent to supply it, on two separate dates, almost 11 months apart: on June 19 2024 and also on May 14 this year.
No details about Underwood’s criminal role were outlined during a short hearing. However, Judge Nicholas Barker did give some information about the value of the cannabis seized from Underwood.
A haul potentially worth around £40,000 had been recovered in June last year, with around £3,000 worth found in the defendant’s possession in May 2025. This is the estimated valuation of the respective cannabis consignments, provided by a police drug expert, if it had been supplied to street users.
Prosecutor Tariq Khawam said the case against Underwood was that he had been a street level dealer.
Defence lawyer Jeff Smith told the court that a formal basis for the entry of Underwood’s two guilty pleas would be submitted in due course.
Judge Barker adjourned the case and asked the probation service to prepare a detailed pre-sentence report.
Underwood, of Crocus Avenue, Penrith, is due to be sentenced on July 21.
In the meantime he remains on unconditional bail.
