An online petition calling for the demolition of Eden Council-owned Voreda House in Penrith to create a car park has been launched.
The petition, which has been created by Penrith town councillor Jonathan Davies, calls the district council to stop all development plans for Voreda House as a single site headquarters for the authority and instead invest in making Penrith Town hall a net zero building.
It also calls for the district council to take back control of Penrith New Squares and use the retail space as a single site public services hub to create an “anchor development” in the heart of Penrith to deliver public services and create footfall to support business in the town centre.
Mr Davies says Eden Council will no longer exist as a council by April 1, 2023, yet it is progressing with its £4 million Voreda House single site project with the spiralling cost when the council has other assets it is failing to make carbon neutral.
The petition has won more than 140 supporters.
A spokesman for Eden Council declined to comment.
