In what appears to be a brazen piece of fly-tipping, someone has left a two-seater sofa in the middle of Penrith.
The black leather-look sofa appeared by the town’s Musgrave Monument overnight.
A passer-by said: “I was stunned to see it there. It looks almost as good as new and is just waiting for someone to sit down in it and turn on the TV.”
Fly-tipping incidents across the county have increased during the coronavirus pandemic.
The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs data shows that 326 fly-tipping incidents were reported to Eden District Council in 2019-20.
Eden District Council took action over 327 fly-tipping offences in 2019-20 – all of them with investigations.
