Carlisle Magistrates Court

A Brough woman has been ordered to pay over £3,300 for breaking coronavirus lockdown rules twice.

A number of people were dealt with at Carlisle Magistrates’ Court on Monday, including Caitlin Tamara Watson, 20, of Lady Anne Drive, Brough, who was landed with a court bill of £3,316 after she was convicted of twice breaching coronavirus regulations in charges that were proved in her absence.

She was convicted of participating in an outdoor gathering of more than two people on February 22 when she was stopped driving a Vauxhall Corsa in Kilgour Street, Penrith.

At the time Eden was in tier four restrictions.

Magistrates fined her £1,100 and ordered she pay a £110 victim surcharge and £85 court costs.

The same day Watson was stopped again in Sainsbury’s car park, Penrith, and charged with the same offence after the court heard she was in the vehicle with another person while others were outside.

She was fined a further £,1760, a £176 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

Victoria Nelmes, 42, of Musgrave Street, Penrith, was convicted of breaching the restrictions at Penrith on February 24.

The court heard she had taken part in a gathering of two or more people in a Volvo C30 while the district was under tier four rules.

The charge was proved in her absence and Nelmes fined £1,100 along with having to pay a £110 victim surcharge and £85 court costs.

David Mark Ostle, 30, of Carleton Road, Penrith, was fined £1,760 for participating in a gathering of two or more people at his home on February 22.

He did not respond to the court summons and was given the hefty fine after the charge was proved in his absence. He will also pay a £176 victim surcharge and £85 court costs.

Sarah Louise Whitaker, 37, of The Crown Hotel, Eamont Bridge, was charged with taking part in a gathering of two or more people at a private dwelling in Hunter Lane, Penrith, on March 22.

The charge was proved in her absence and she was fined £660, a £66 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

Thomas Scott Hodgson, 32, of Parklands Crescent, pleaded guilty to breaching the restrictions on April 4 by participating in a gathering of more than two people inside an industrial unit at North Lakes Business Park, Flusco.

Hodgson was fined £80 and ordered to pay a £34 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

Alisha Lowis, 24, of Heron Grove, Appleby, pleaded guilty to participating in an indoor gathering of more than two people at her home on April 3.

She was fined £200, a £34 victim surcharge and £85 court costs.

Bradley James Rutherford, 19, of Walk Mill Barn, Warcop, was charged with leaving his home and going to Tebay while the district was under tier four restrictions on March 19.

He admitted the offence and was fined £416. He will pay a £41 victim surcharge and £85 costs.
