A good Samaritan’s generosity proved a mash hit with customers of well known Penrith town centre trader Tattie Tim this week.
A handful of lucky visitors to well-known Tim Lorton’s baked potato stall in Devonshire Street were left feeling rather chipper on Wednesday afternoon.
It was then that a “mystery man” handed over £100 to pay for the lunches of those behind him in the queue.
Tim said: “He just put £100 on the card machine and said it was to pay for people’s lunch. It was very kind — it restores your faith!”
It was later revealed that the mystery lunch benefactor was one of the team behind an Eden-based giveaway company which is giving Santa Claus a run for his money as they search for worthy people to treat this Christmas.
Lake District Giveaways, run by Mike Nowak, Tom Dadley and Alex Hankin, is looking for nominations for their new Make A Wish appeal on their website.
“We are asking for people to recommend others they think have gone the extra mile or endured tough personal circumstances recently.
“We are then asking what they think the person nominated would like to receive,” said Mike, of Appleby.
They launched the appeal and received 1,000 responses in less than 24 hours, which Mike said was “unbelievable”.
The giveaway team, who as well as running online competitions also hide money across the county for their social media followers to find, have given away £125,000 worth of free prizes since they launched in July last year. Altogether more than £2.5 million of prizes have been won.
“We always focus on the giveaway side of our business and on giving directly back to our customers and community,” said Mike, who added the cut off date for entries is 15th December.
Mike said they plan to treat various winners with a range of prizes depending on circumstances, from children’s toys to spa days and holidays.
