Eden now has the 15th lowest case rate of all lower-tier local authority areas in the UK with a rate of 130.2 per 100,000, with 70 new cases.

Eden now has the 15th lowest case rate of all lower-tier local authority areas in the UK with a rate of 130.2 per 100,000, with 70 new cases.

The rate of coronavirus infection has fallen in Cumbria and is now significantly lower than the national average.

For the seven-day period ending August 11, there were 1,186 new cases in Cumbria – which is a rate of 237.3 per 100,000 and puts the area just outside the lowest 60 upper-tier local authority areas in the UK.

There are 214 upper-tier and 230 lower-tier local authorities in the UK.

Here are the number of new cases by Cumbrian district accompanied by the rate per 100,000 people in brackets for the seven-day period ending on August 11:

  • Barrow – 229 (343.2 per 100,000)
  • Copeland – 227 (333.6 per 100,000)
  • Allerdale – 260 (265.8 per 100,000)
  • Carlisle – 206 (189.8 per 100,000)
  • South Lakeland – 194 (184.9 per 100,000)
  • Eden – 70 (130.2 per 100,000)

A darker colour indicates a higher coronavirus infection rate

Here are the 10 areas with the highest infection rates in Cumbria. The number of new weekly cases are accompanied by the rate per 100,000 in brackets.

  • Millom & Duddon Valley – 64 (651.8 per 100,000)
  • Workington East – 42 (538.1 per 100,000)
  • Barrow Central – 31 (470.2 per 100,000)
  • Workington West – 39 (447.2 per 100,000)
  • Parkside – 29 (439.9 per 100,000)
  • Whitehaven Harbour & Corkickle – 23 (434.5 per 100,000)
  • Mirehouse, Kells & Woodhouse – 42 (427.1 per 100,000)
  • Hawcoat & Furness Abbey – 32 (425 per 100,000)
  • Walney Island North – 28 (415.4 per 100,000)
