Former Workington and Barrow goalkeeper Aaran Taylor has joined Penrith AFC’s first XI management team.
Taylor, 34, joined Blues manager Dave Hewson and his recently-appointed assistant Mark Banks in the Frenchfield Park dugout last night as they took on North Shields in Northern League Division I.
“Aaran’s had a little bit of time away from football,” said Hewson.
“I’ve known Arran for a long time, had a lot of experience with him at Workington. “He’s shown an interest and a willingness to come in as part of the management team. He’s got so much experience and his knowledge of the game is absolutely second to none.
“You speak to anyone who’s played with him, alongside him (and they) will talk about his knowledge of football, his knowledge of the game.
“So he’s going to bring a huge amount to the club, to the team and in support of me and Banksy. And on the plus side he’s also going to be available, if needed, as back up because he’s still a top keeper.
“He feels like he’s coming towards the end of his playing time but he knows if called upon, if needed, he will be available.”
Hewson added: “But the most important thing is that we’ve got him in as part of the management team to take the club forward in the right direction.
“He’s the type of character, the type of person that we want here to take the club forward. The lads will respond really well to him.”
