Drivers are being asked to avoid the A592 near Rheged after a two-vehicle collision.
The road between Rheged and Ullswater is closed as emergency services are at the scene.
A statement from police said: “Cumbria police are dealing with a two-vehicle collision on the A592, near to Rheged, Penrith.
“Two vehicles are also on fire.
“The road is closed at the Rheged roundabout. Please avoid the area to allow emergency services to deal with this incident.”
It is understood the air ambulance is also in attendance.
