A Penrith woman has been hit with a huge fine for hosting an illegal Boxing Day gathering at her home while tight COVID-19 restrictions were in force.
The case against Chloe Stewart, 30, of Rowan Court, was proved in her absence at Carlisle Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
On December 26, Stewart was said to have participated in a gathering of two or more people at a private dwelling in an area governed by Tier 4 restrictions.
As a result of the case being proved, a fine of £1,760 was imposed, with a £176 surcharge and £85 costs.
Stewart’s case was one of 13 dealt with in the absence of defendants by the court on that day.
A woman from London and a man from Liverpool were punished for leaving their areas of residence in March and January respectively, while a man from Kendal was hit with a £2,021 court bill for being in a town post office without a face covering in early February.
