A search of Crummock Water for a missing man is continuing this evening.
Emergency services were called at around 1pm yesterday after reports that two people had got into difficulty at the water.
Cumbria police mounted an immediate search, with Coastguard, mountain rescue and other agencies.
It was called off at 11pm and restarted at around 8am this morning.
A statement from police said they were searching for one man.
Cumbria Fire and Rescue, North West Ambulance Service, mountain rescue, the Coastguard and North West Police Underwater search team were called in.
The search is continuing into this evening, a police spokesman said.
Officers have urged people to avoid the area.
Road closures continue to be in place while searches are ongoing, closures are at Lorton Junction, B5289/B5292 and the B5289/ Newlands Pass.
A spokesman said: “We are asking for those affected by the disruption to be patient as searches are expected to be ongoing for the foreseeable future.”
