Firefighters spent several hours tackling a lorry blaze on the M6.
Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service was called at around 10.10am today, June 17, to the northbound carriageway between junctions 41 and 42.
Two fire engines from Penrith and crews from Carlisle East and Carlisle West stations, plus the aerial ladder platform, attended the blaze.
When crews arrived, they found the HGV fire had sparked a grass fire, which was spreading quickly.
Penrith Fire Station said: “All crews worked very hard to extinguish the fires but the HGV fire itself proved very difficult to extinguish due to the load it was carrying.
“After several hours fighting the fire we were finally able to bring the incident to a close and allow the HGV to be recovered.”
The incident caused long tailbacks.
