Wordsworth Trust given £4.1 million lottery grant
THE Wordsworth Trust has been awarded a grant of £4.1 million by the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) for its Reimagining Wordsworth project.
The trust is based at Dove Cottage, Grasmere, and it looks after the surrounding historic hamlet of Town End. After being awarded a first round pass in 2016, the trust has spent two years developing the project and gathered in matchfunding of more than £1 million in order to secure the grant.
Trust director Michael McGregor said: "‘This is wonderful news. Funding from the HLF will enable us to realise our vision for Reimagining Wordsworth, creating new ways of enjoying Wordsworth’s poetry in the landscape that inspired him."
The money will be used to improve the Wordsworth Museum, make Dove Cottage more authentic, open up new green spaces, improve access, give visitors a better experience and create a programme of exciting
activities and events.
Work is expected to start in early 2019 and to be completed by April, 2020, to celebrate the 250th anniversary of William Wordsworth’s birth.
