Woman dies in A6 crash near Shap

A WOMAN has died in a two-vehicle crash on the A6 south of Shap.

Police say a Citroen car driven by the woman collided with a trailer carrying a mini digger at about 8-30 this morning. The trailer was being pulled by a Mercedes Sprinter van prior to the crash.

At the time of the crash the car was driving south and the van was heading north.

The 26-year-old driver of the car, who police say was from the Penrith area, died at the scene as a result of the collision. She was the only occupant of the vehicle.

The road remains closed in both directions while officers continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident. Diversions are in place.
