Shocking report into Penrith care home abuse

Date: Thursday 31st May 2018

A SHOCKING report into the abuse of elderly dementia patients at a private Penrith care home has been published.

It found "systematic failings" in the management of the 36-bed Beacon Edge Care care home during 2013.

The report by Cumbria Adults Safeguarding Board found that the abuse went on despite the close involvement at the home of a range of public health and care professionals.

Fifteen residents were subjected to "disrespectful, frightening, painful, degrading and humiliating," behaviour by a trio of young care staff, according to the report.

In 2014, William "Billy" Bowman, aged 22, of Bowscar; Chevonne Benson, 23 of Penrith; and Claire Strong, 21, of Clifton, were all subsequently jailed as a result.
