Rats’ nest traffic light troubles spark debate

THEY were just looking for somewhere warm and cosy to make their nest, but a family of rats which caused intermittent outages to the traffic lights at junction 40, Penrith, have sparked a debate over whether or not the lights are needed at all.

A rats’ nest was discovered within a sealed box which controls the signals during roundabout works in November, which began to cause intermittent problems from the middle of December.
