Penrith extra-care apartments plan revealed
MORE than 50 new extra-care apartments for older people could be created in Penrith.
Atkinson Homes has revealed plans to develop what was formerly the Newton House sheltered housing scheme in Newton Road. It closed in 2010 but was bought 18 months ago by the company with the intention of developing an extra-care housing scheme for Penrith.
A formal planning application is expected to be submitted to Eden District Council in September.
Atkinson Homes said it had chosen Housing and Care 21 as a partner in the project. The Birmingham-based company is a charitable, not-for-profit organisation, providing specialist retirement and extra-care housing, supporting older people to live independently in their own home.
