Jail for man who pushed woman down pub stairs

Date: Friday 12th May 2017

A SHAP man has been jailed for 12 months after he admitted pushing a woman down the stairs of a Penrith pub.

Nicholas Joseph Banks (28), Fell House, was sentenced at Carlisle Crown Court today after pleading guilty at an earlier hearing to a charge of assault causing actual bodily harm.

The incident occurred in the Dog Beck pub on Saturday, 28th January. The court heard the victim suffered a broken collar bone after she was pushed by Banks when her back was turned.

Mr. Mark Shepherd, in mitigation, said this had been a spur of the moment decision by Banks who had tried to avoid confrontation with his victim on two occasions that evening.
