AMONG those recognised in the New Year Honours was Sally Arnison, formerly of Eden, who was awarded an MBE for services to healthcare and the community in Edinburgh.

Sally, aged 45, was born in Carlisle and went to Langwathby School. She studied pharmacy in Bradford, and spent her holidays working at Boots Pharmacy, in Penrith. Her mother, Margaret Barr, lives at Carleton Hill.

Sally now lives in Barnton, Edinburgh, where she and business partner Leanne Carey are directors of Barnton Pharmacy and Travel Clinic. Sally is married to wife Alex and has two young sons.

In the pharmacy, Sally is an independent prescriber and manages caseloads of patients in local GP practices. She also practices as a clinical pharmacist in the heart of her community, assessing and triaging minor ailments, discussing complex medication issues with patients and their carers and administering travel vaccinations in her travel clinic.

Sally was honoured in 2017 as a fellow of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.
