Adoption open evening

Date: Monday 4th February 2019

AN event is being held in Penrith this evening giving people a chance to find out more about adopting.

Cumbria County Council is inviting people who are thinking about adopting to an event at The George Hotel, Devonshire Street, at 6pm today.

For many, adopting a child is a huge decision but the council's experienced adoption team will be on hand at every step to support people throughout the process and beyond.

Information events offer a great opportunity for people to meet friendly adoption professionals, enjoy a cup of tea and to find out more about the children waiting, the process and the support available.

Contrary to many of the myths which surround adoption, the council will consider adopters regardless of age, marital status, gender, sexuality, disability or employment status and in most cases the process takes around six months.

Councillor Anne Burns, Cabinet Member for Children and Family Services, said: "We know the adoption process can seem scary and intrusive but adopters who have been through it tell us that it can be a really positive experience and well worth it.

"Our teams want the best for the children and adopters, and work tirelessly to match children with the right forever families.

"Our team is always ready to talk to people who are considering adopting, so if that’s you, please take that first step and contact us."
