£80,000 court bill for bakery firm
AN Eden bakery firm with an “unblemished health and safety record” has been ordered to pay almost £80,000 following two accidents at its Lazonby site.
Bosses from Bells of Lazonby were at Carlisle Magistrates’ Court when Mr. Adrian Farrow, who represented them during the two-and-a- half hour hearing, pleaded guilty on their behalf to two charges of contravening health and safety regulations which resulted in two workers being injured.
The court was told it was not a case of the firm putting “profit before safety of employees”, it was just that it had not kept up with regulations.
