“Not acceptable” says Coyles as Blues suffer another trouncing
PENRITH AFC first team began the new year as they had ended the old one — with a crushing Northern League defeat away from home.
After losing 4-0 a fortnight ago to a Consett side which went top of Division I, the basement Blues travelled to fourth-from-bottom Guisborough Town on Saturday and were trounced 5-0.
“It was a tough one to take,” manager Andy Coyles said on Monday, having given himself time to take stock. “I’m extremely disappointed with the performance itself, and with a few of the performances of the players — not just their quality but some of their effort as well.
“Over the last couple of months I’ve been praising the lads on their effort and application, and I stand by that. But Saturday just wasn’t acceptable. Sometimes you’ve got to take the rough with the smooth and be brutally honest with the lads because that way you’re making sure your standards and expectations are always put in place and known. But ‘disappointed’ is probably the best word to describe it.”
