Nathan a winner at motorsport night of champions
EDEN’S Nathan Aston attended the Motor Sports Association’s prestigious night of champions ceremony at the Royal Automobile Club, London, where he collected his 2010 MSA British Cadet Kart Championship trophy.
Mercedes GP Petronas Formula One team principal Ross Brawn presented 13-year-old Aston with his award in front of a 150-strong audience of distinguished guests from the world of motor sport, including the British champions from 2010.
Aston — a student at Appleby Grammar School — began his 2010 title campaign with victory at the season opener, his home event at Rowrah, near Egremont.
After some stunning performances — especially in wet conditions — he arrived at the season finale at Ellough Park as one of three drivers able to win the crown.
Aston ended up tied on 1,858 points with his season-long rival Connor Jupp, but his higher tally prior to dropped scores being taken into account meant that the spoils were his. He has recently signed for the Intrepid factory team for 2011 and will tackle the WSK series across Europe.
Aston said: “Last year was only my second season of racing at national level, so it was great to win the MSA British Cadet Kart Championship title. I had a great time at the night of champions and it was amazing to be given my trophy by Ross Brawn.”
