Chief instructor Holding awarded 6th dan

PENRITH-based karate instructor Mark Holding has been awarded his 6th dan.

The 53-year-old retired police officer started martial arts training at the age of eight with judo, and also taekwondo in his teenage years. He then trained in judo aikido and karate while stationed at Barrow-in-Furness.

He trained with Eden-based Sensei Doug James 8th dan from 1990 until 2014 when he formed his own group of clubs and affiliated to the Yanagi Kai Association under Sensei Ian Swain 7th dan.
