Cumbrian rugby teams “stitched up” claim as new leagues are formed
UPPER Eden and Keswick are among the Cumbria rugby union teams which will have to play in a new Cumbria League this season following a decision by the RFU.
Both were expecting to be playing in the level seven North Lancashire and Cumbria League this season — Upper Eden having been promoted back into that division after one season in the old Cumbria League.
The new format stems from the decision by 19 Lancashire clubs to pull out of the league pyramid system run from Twickenham. Effectively, they did not want to travel to Cumbria, but were happy enough to form their own Lancashire-based competition.
