All in the mind, says coach
HUDDERSFIELD YMCA travel to Penrith RUFC today on the back of two good wins, including a 16-12 victory over Morpeth on Saturday which ended the north east side’s unbeaten start to the season.
Penrith coach Dave Preston said: “I understand they have done some recruiting and they have a new coaching set-up so we will have our work cut out.
“We have got to get into our heads that it’s not about what they do; it’s our state of mind when we step out on to the pitch at 3pm. It’s in our own hands — with the right mindset and if we are all working for each other, hopefully we will be on the right side of the result.”
Although pleased with his side’s victory at Hartlepool on Wednesday, Preston still has concerns over lapses in concentration by his players.
He said: “Hartlepool is never an easy place to go to. There was a lot of talk about them having players missing, but I never buy into that. It’s usually a case of smoke and mirrors.
“They’re still a solid team at home and we had to play some decent rugby to beat them. They made us defend for long periods to be able to come away with the win. Our attack was good in patches again, but we can still give up the ball too easily.
“It was a similar pattern in defence — we would defend well, then have a lapse in concentration and let them back in the game.
“As a team, we have all the physical attributes, we sometimes just need the mental side of our game to catch up.
