Remarkable weekend of successes for special town

Date: Monday 6th November 2017

Sir, Last week was a remarkable weekend for our special town. On Friday, Penrith BID won the best BID entry in the UK at the Britain in Bloom finals.

Joan Robinson and her team of community gardeners also had their hard work recognised, with Joan receiving a community champion award. I cannot thank her and her volunteers enough for all the work they do for Penrith.

These awards, however, are not only testimony to the individuals involved but highlight the dedication that everyone involved gave to this year’s entry. The judges were impressed with “the teamwork shown by the businesses and community volunteers and the sense of civic pride it fostered”.

Saturday gave us the Winter Droving, so thank you, Eden Arts, the residents who contributed and the community groups who continue to support the event. Again it proved to be a spectacular event enjoyed by visitors and locals alike.

We look forward to continuing to work with Eden District Council in the financial support of this iconic event.

I would like to thank you most sincerely for helping to make Penrith a more vibrant, cleaner, greener and beautiful place to live, visit and shop.

Together we have made a difference. Yours etc,

SCOTT JACKSON

(Mayor of Penrith and Penrith Town Council planning committee chairman)
