Greening efforts put Penrith on national stage

Date: Tuesday 11th July 2017

Sir, As many of your readers will be aware, Penrith will shortly host the judging team from Britain in Bloom. This is a recognition of the wonderful work done last year. Not only will our town receive county-wide attention for its floral excellence but also national attention as well.

I would personally like to thank all those who have contributed to this year’s displays and made the “greening” possible; from Penrith Community Gardeners to Penrith BID, Eden Mencap to the St. Andrew’s churchyard gardeners, the Lions Club and Eden District Council.

There are numerous organisations to thank and undoubtedly I will have missed someone. Suffice it to say all involved are fantastic examples of what makes Penrith such a special place.

I would also like to take this opportunity to ask a favour of the people of Penrith. Would you indulge in a little gardening yourself?

I know so many of you take such pride in your gardens and it would be superfluous to ask for more, but others may just have a front doorstep that might need a sweep.

As every drop of water is as important as the last in forming the ocean, so every bit of effort this summer contributes to the beauty of Penrith. I hope you feel you can be part of that. Yours etc,

SCOTT JACKSON

(Mayor of Penrith)

Penrith.
