Beacon campaign will continue
Sir, Thank you for your brilliant coverage of the Penrith masterplan and the reaction of residents. I am writing this so people are clear about where the Friends of Penrith Beacon now stand.
We are grateful the Beacon proposals have been withdrawn from the Penrith masterplan, however we are campaigning as hard as ever for public access to the Beacon.
We would like to thank all the people who have supported us so far and to ask them please to continue to support us. If you have collected signatures for the petition, please return them to the address on the sheet before Monday, 29th October.
Our petition says: “We, the Friends of Penrith Beacon, petition Eden District Council to take the necessary action for all of the Beacon forest to remain as it is now, a wild place with no development and accessible to all residents.”
There are at least two actions we think the council can take. Firstly we want Eden District Council to keep the land designation for the Beacon forest as it is now, so there is no expectation that building might be allowed in the future.
Secondly, we would like the council to consider buying the Beacon from Lowther Estates.
We expect our petition to be debated at the council meeting on 8th November at 6-45pm. Please reserve the date to go and listen.
Please continue to speak and write to all your town, district and county councillors to ask them to take action on your behalf. Yours etc,
(Friends of Penrith Beacon)
