Badgers obnoxious pests that need to be controlled

Date: Monday 11th September 2017

Sir, Badgers are pests and need to be controlled. Tommy Coulthard (Herald, 19th August) and Hilary Wilson (2nd September) have hit the nail right on the head.

The reason we still have badgers, buzzards and other raptors (who have no predator other than human) is that responsible landowners did not exterminate them, but kept their numbers in balance with other wildlife.

We haven’t seen a hedgehog for years, and miss the distinctive call of curlews — once common. There is no doubt that badgers have contributed to their demise. Furthermore, these dirty, aggressive beasts dig up our lawns and use our flower beds as open latrines.

Surely the time has now come to permit a nationwide cull of these obnoxious and dangerous pests. Yours etc,
