AN established firm opened its new premises on Penrith’s Eden Business Park on Tuesday.

Insurance comparison site theidol.com, which is a part of the Legal & General Group, is also looking to attract local talent following the move to the new base in Greenbank Road.

Bosses are hoping the new two-storey, 10,000sq ft office will allow for further growth plans within the company, which is hoping to increase its workforce by almost a third in the next 12 months.

Paul Tyson, managing director at theidol.com, said: “2017 has been an amazing year for theidol.com, and we are thrilled to be ending on a high with the opening of our new office.

“Remaining in Penrith was an important aspect of our growth plans and the new building will allow us to accommodate our growing digital development team, which has increased to 38 employees over 2017.

“We have created a space that allows the team to collaborate effectively while also allowing time-out to keep fit and share ideas.

“We have an in-house gym and other facilities that we feel encourage a healthy work-life balance, leading to increased productivity, higher morale and job satisfaction.”

Nicola White, the office manager and head of life insurance, added that the firm was not looking to move from the Eden area because transport links were very good. “We can be in London in three hours,” she said.

theidol.com is a FinTech company that specialises in the comparison of life insurance, travel insurance and pet insurance products through its brand Compare Cover.

It also supports several of the major price comparison websites by providing insurance comparison services on-line for a variety of products. In addition, theidol.com provides digital product and idea development services to other parts of the Legal & General Group and other companies.

This year saw the development and launch of two new FinTech brands by the company — CleverMover, which is aimed at first-time and existing property buyers, and provides consumers with information and tools to compare mortgage deals, and ProtectMyPeople, which allows small and medium enterprise business owners to compare group life insurance quotes.

The new office building was constructed by Penrith-based firm Atkinson Building Contractors to theidol.com’s specification.

It has an open plan office, a number of meeting rooms, table tennis and pool tables, a gym and a large kitchen, as well as communal bicycles for lunch break commutes into town.
