Teenpossessed banned drug

Date: Friday 15th September 2017

A PENRITH teenager has been ordered to pay almost £300 after he admitted possessing a quantity of cannabis earlier this month.

Ben Howe (18), Castle Drive, pleaded guilty to possession of the controlled Class B drug when he appeared at Carlisle Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

Mr. Peter Bardsley, prosecuting, described the case as “straightforward” and said police attended Howe’s address on Friday, 1st September, when they found a small “snap bag” containing the drug on his person.

Mr. Tariq Khawam, in mitigation, said Howe, who worked as a spray painter, had no previous convictions.

District Judge Gerald Chalk fined Howe £180 and ordered him to pay £85 in court costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

In addition he ordered the forfeiture and destruction of the seized drugs.
