Smoking breaks stubbed out
EDEN Council staff are no longer to be allowed to take smoking breaks during work time.
In future, any district council employee wanting to smoke a cigarette will have to sign out of work.
Although smoking will continue to be prohibited on council premises, there will be designated outside areas where it will be permitted.
Consideration will also be given to having separate areas for smokers and users of e-cigarettes, but listed building consent and planning permission may be needed before any smoking huts can be built.
A spokesman for Eden Council said the policy was approved at a leader’s portfolio meeting held on Tuesday. However, the spokesman added that there were “no plans for any smoking shelters”.
