Railway restoration call
A COUNTY councillor has called for an investigation into the possibility of reopening the Keswick to Penrith railway.
Cumbria County Council’s local committee for Eden backed a suggestion from Neil Hughes (Lib Dem, Eden Lakes) for a scrutiny review into reopening the route. “I would suggest that it is prioritised for the forthcoming year,” he said.
Andy Connell (Lib Dem, Appleby) said “This has been kicked around for years now — it’s time it was considered.”
Committee chairman David Whipp (Con, Penrith Rural) wondered if the review could be widened to the whole of rail use in Eden but Mr Hughes felt the scope would be too large.
