Place of peace and tranquillity

Date: Friday 14th September 2018

Sir, Beacon Hill is a place of peace and tranquillity, and an enormous asset to Penrith.

Eden Council’s Masterplan will allow the central part of the forest to be torn up and replaced with dozens of fenced off lodges and new access roads.

Also, the proposed spine road will pass less than 100 metres from the back of the forest and this significant new road will carry much of the traffic from the proposed new villages.

And yet — in a prime example of doublespeak — Eden Council claims that this is the only way to protect Beacon Hill from “insensitive” development.

Beacon Hill has been nothing but a commercial woodland for generations, and that is how it should remain in the future. Yours etc,

SIMON ELLISON-BUNCE
