THE Eden Tri-Golf final took place following qualifying rounds in November. The events were organised by Eden Valley Sports Partnership in collaboration with Appleby and Penrith golf clubs.

Young sports leaders from Kirkby Stephen Grammar School, Appleby Grammar School and Newton Rigg College assisted golf club members with the smooth running of the events.

Each team consisted of five girls and five boys, and in an indoor sports hall environment they took part in challenges which tested chipping and putting skills required for playing golf. The scores from each station were collated to give the eventual winners.

Tri-Golf competitions are the perfect way to introduce young people to golf, and both the Appleby and Penrith clubs are keen to encourage junior members.

The teams who took part were from Temple Sowerby, Appleby, Asby, Crosby Ravensworth, Culgaith, Langwathby, Kirkby Stephen, Morland, Warcop, Orton, Penruddock, North Lakes, Beaconside, Skelton and St Catherine’s schools.

The eventual winners, who will represent Eden at the Cumbria Schools Games finals in Carlisle on 10th July, were Penruddock Primary School, who won the Year 3/4 event, and Kirkby Stephen, who won in Year 5/6.
