Opening salvos in inquiry
THE opening shots have been fired at a public inquiry to settle a long-running legal wrangle between commoners and the Ministry of Defence.
The two-day hearing in Kendal follows an application made in 2015 to Cumbria County Council on behalf of the Secretary of State for Defence.
It seeksto “deregister” three vast swathes of commonland totalling 11,000 acres, taking in Murton, Hilton and Warcop fells.
