Man cleared of Penrith assault
A MAN was acquitted by a jury of three charges he had denied — and then wished the judge “Merry Christmas” after the verdicts were returned.
Michal Pawel Swidzinski (32), Victoria Road, Penrith, went on trial at Carlisle Crown Court this week on charges of assaulting a woman in the town centre during the early hours of 18th March; perverting the course of justice on 27th June; and “intimidating” the same woman on 14th September.
But as the hearing concluded, Polish national Swidzinski said to Judge Peter Davies through his interpreter: “I would like to thank Your Honour and all the court staff. Merry Christmas.”
