Lake District bothy open toall after fundraising effort

Date: Friday 20th April 2018

THE Lake District Calvert Trust has officially opened its fully accessible Bowderstone Bothy. The property, which sleeps up to 12 people, is now equipped with a working kitchen, wet room, log burner and furniture.

Over the last two years, the trust has been fundraising to redevelop the bothy, which is on a 25-year lease from the National Trust. It is situated next to the famous Bowderstone in the “Jaws of Borrowdale”, near Grange.

Work began in 2017 to turn the dilapidated building into functional and wheelchair accessible accommodation. The final painting and decoration was completed by a team of volunteers from Keswick Lions Club.

The Calvert Trust has been delivering outdoor adventure holidays for people with disabilities for more than 40 years.
