A GARDEN centre is closing its doors after 10 years in business with the loss of eight jobs.

Garden of Eden has been run at Thiefside, near Calthwaite, by Jackie Radcliffe, her two children, Sarah and Jason, and grandson Declan, who was planning on joining the family business after finishing school.

However, the garden centre, farm shop and cafe will shut up shop for the final time on 29th June after the owners decided not to offer a renewal of the lease.

While Sarah plans to continue with home deliveries from the farm shop and Jason will continue to sell plants at Penrith and Appleby markets, the decision means retirement for Jackie after a decade in business.

She said: “It’s a family-run business, but aside from the family, we also have four staff who will be losing their jobs unfortunately, plus some Saturday staff, who we have already let go.

“I will continue to help Sarah and Jason in keeping their parts going, but other than that, I will be retiring.”
