Common sense is cheaper

Date: Friday 14th September 2018

Sir, Now that Eden Council can afford to spend five figures of taxpayers’ money on hiring a consultant to tell it what common sense could do for free, it is clear that it can now afford to restore the hot water to its public loos in Bluebell Lane and Sandgate, which it removed when cheeseparing in alarm at cuts in government funding.

Hot water kills germs and enables a thorough wash, cold water does little for this. Winter is the time of germs spreading, so now’s the time to get it back.

The council maintains the public clocks, one of which is St Andrew’s, where the quarter-hour chimes are as normal, but the hour bell is silent and has been for months. Let’s have it back. People notice. Visitors wonder. Yours etc,
