ANNUAL DOLE CEREMONY

The Rev. Alan Maguire, who took the service at the annual Brougham Dole ceremony, held at Countess Pillar, with local parishioners (left to right) Sarah Harden with her Labradors Putney and Cliquot, Jeremy Godwin, Colin Butterworth, Maureen Wilson, Tony Williams, Carole Maguire and Helen Shipp. The pillar, erected in 1656, is said to be where Lady Anne met her mother for the last time in 1616 and where she began her annual distribution of shillings to the poor of her parish of Brougham.
